They are so good.  We add them along side of our Pancakes, French Toast, 
 or Homemade Biscuits!
... but the dirty little secret is they are great on Blue Bell Ice Cream!

Unique Elegance of Cottage Gardens

Cottage gardens are informal gardens with dense plantings that are highly individualistic.  English in origin the cottage gardens use grace and charm rather than formal structure.  Many times there is a rose-bowered arbor entrance. These gardens give the homes such romantic appeal.



The Brenham House uses old-fashioned plants and varieties such as antique roses, native plants, herbs, and self-sowing perennials
which come back year after year.


As the years go by cottage gardens become very dense.
These gardens surround The Brenham House.

Fall is in the Air!

The mornings have been a little cooler and the leaves are starting to fall from the trees,
some say it is just the drought,
but I like to think it is Fall in the Air!

Just a few weeks until Round Top Antique Festival begins, in Round Top ,Texas.
Vendors will begin setting up early.  There will be early bird finds,
before everyone sifts through the items.

After a long day of shopping head back to
 The Brenham House to relax and grab a cookie from the cookie jar!

Give Thanks to all who Served our Country this Memorial Day

Thanks to all who served our country
for the sacrifices that have been made,
 along with the sacrifices their families have had to make as well!
Memorial Day

Our guests celebrated and gave thanks this weekend.  This morning
they were served a King's breakfast.

Fresh fruit, with cinnamon cream and chocolate mint,
Egg in the hole of whole wheat bread and toast,
parsley red potatoes,
our garden tomatoes season with fresh basil ribbons,
and to top it off lemon turnovers!
... and lots of coffee!

Scones from Scratch at The Brenham House

We make scones in many varieties.  
Anything you can dream of you can turn into a scone!
Cranberry and Orange, Cherry and Almond, Strawberry, Blueberry, Apricot

... THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!

Try this recipe
2c. flour, sifted
1 T. baking powder (aluminum free)
1 tsp. salt
2 T. sugar
1 -1/2 sticks of cold butter, diced
2 eggs
1/2 c. cold cream
1 c. dried fruit, diced
optional:  1 tsp.  vanilla, almond, orange or strawberry extract 

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  In a mixer, place all sifted ingredients.  Add butter and mix on low until pea size.  In a small bowl whisk eggs and cream.  Add to the mixer and mix just until blended.  Fold in fruit.  Pour sticky dough out onto floured counter, knead a few times.  Roll out and cut scones with biscuit cutter.  Place on baking sheet with parchment paper.  Egg wash the tops and sprinkle with sugar.  Bake for 15-20 minutes.  Serves 12

dark, silent world.  Drawing heavily from letters written by Anne Sullivan
 in 1887, the drama unfolds with wit and humor to reveal events leading 
to the famous friendship.

Bluebonnet Garden Club

Bluebonnet Garden Club Show
February 23, 2012  10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
One stop on the tour was The Brenham House Bed and Breakfast. 
 So glad we were able to participate.  
We want to thank everyone who took the time to come by and see the flower art and visit with James and me.
Such talented people.  All of the designs were perfect for the spaces.  There was a great turnout and beautiful weather!  The lunch was fabulous.  There were about 200 touring the homes.
