My Grandmother, fondly known as Kate

This is my father's mother, my grandmother, Ruby Kate Rhode and her pet deer!
This picture was on a post card.
She was born and reared in Iota, Louisiana.  The family moved to Beaumont, Texas after she graduated high school, in 1919.  Someone burnt down her father's two general stores and that is why they moved to Texas.

1800's Gas Parlor Chandelier at The Brenham House

This is the chandelier in the stairwell at The Brenham House!

It is a lovely fixture that dates back to the late 1800's.
It is a Victorian Parlor gas chandelier that burned kerosene.   The kerosene was stored in the brass base of the lamp.  It has a chimney and at the top is a smoke bell of opal glass used to snuff out the lamp.
It has an opal glass domed shade and crystals to refract the light.  It has been electrically wired and is such a reminder of our history.

Poker Cake

What a great birthday cake!  It was all eatable!
Made by Brenham Old Towne Bakery, in Historic Downtown Brenham.

It was Carol's birthday, innkeeper of the Front Porch Bed and Breakfast!
Great fun sharing a meal and playing cards with other innkeepers of Washington County.
